THE ROLE
The key contributor supporting CMHC-insured and conventional multi-family loan underwriting and origination with a focus on high-volume transaction management and independent stakeholder engagement.
  • Transaction Review and Analysis (60%)
  • Liaising with External and Internal Stakeholders (20%)
  • Portfolio and Account Management (10%)
  • Risk Assessment and Regulatory Compliance (10%)
THE TASKS
Transaction Review and Analysis
  • Support the loan origination team in collecting required documentation from borrowers and brokers for the structuring of new loan transactions
  • Prepare and populate Application Summaries with relevant information and charts based on internal models for loan transactions and submission to CMHC for approval
  • Conduct financial analysis of potential multi-family mortgage applicants, including reviewing financial statements, cash flow projections, and credit reports to assess creditworthiness and risk
  • Evaluate loan applications by considering factors such as loan-to-value ratios, debt service coverage ratios, and borrower credit history to determine suitability
  • Coordinate and conduct due diligence activities, including review of property appraisals, title searches, and environmental assessments to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal lending standards
  • Work collaboratively with CMHC underwriters to answer questions, ensure file completeness, and review Certificates of Insurance through to clear COI
Liaising with External and Internal Stakeholders
  • Collaborate with internal teams, borrowers, investors, and external stakeholders such as appraisers and solicitors to facilitate the loan origination process, including negotiating terms, preparing loan packages, and assisting with closing
  • Independently manage communications with CMHC underwriters and external parties, exercising sound judgment in responses without requiring regular oversight
Portfolio and Account Management
  • Complete loan amendment, extension, and renewal submissions for existing loans in the portfolio
Risk Assessment and Regulatory Compliance
  • Identify and assess risks associated with multi-family real estate lending and support strategies to mitigate potential challenges
  • Stay current on regulatory requirements and compliance standards related to commercial real estate and CMHC lending, ensuring origination and underwriting practices adhere to industry regulations

THE EXPECTATIONS TIMELINE PREVIEW
By Month 1
  • Learn and familiarize yourself with internal systems, processes, and workflows specific to the CMHC & Multi-Family group
  • Build relationships with key internal team members and understand reporting structures
  • Begin reviewing active files to understand current deal pipeline and transaction standards
  • Familiarize yourself with how files are transferred to the closing department and the responsibilities across the team
By Month 3
  • Independently prepare Application Summaries and supporting documentation for CMHC submissions
  • Manage communications with CMHC underwriters and external stakeholders with minimal oversight
  • Demonstrate the ability to juggle 10–15 active files at various stages simultaneously
  • Contribute to the structuring of new loan transactions alongside the origination team
By Month 6
  • Operate with full autonomy across underwriting, stakeholder communications, and file management
  • Actively contribute to the team's target of closing 15–25 loans per month
  • Support the team's goal of adding $150 million in additional small loan volume by year-end
  • Complete loan amendment, extension, and renewal submissions independently
By Month 12
  • Function as a fully independent senior team member with consistent, high-quality output requiring minimal review
  • Play a role in onboarding or providing oversight to more junior team members
  • Contribute meaningfully to conventional multi-family bridge analysis and other non-CMHC transactions
  • Demonstrate readiness for expanded responsibilities or a progression path within the organization
THE SKILL SET
  • A minimum of 2–4 years of direct CMHC multi-family underwriting experience at an institutional lender
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a high volume of files simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Hands-on experience with the full CMHC application process, from submission through to Certificate of Insurance
