THE ROLE
An individual contributor role supporting financial operations through management reporting, analytics, and month-end close activities for a growing SaaS company.
- Management Reporting & Analytics (65%)
- Month-End Close Support (35%)
THE TASKS
Management Reporting & Analytics
- Collect, clean, and organize data from various internal and external sources to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Apply statistical techniques, data mining, and machine learning algorithms to analyze data and extract meaningful insights
- Create visualizations, charts, graphs, and dashboards to present data in clear and understandable formats
- Conduct exploratory data analysis to uncover patterns, relationships, and develop predictive models for forecasting
- Perform A/B testing and experimentation to evaluate strategy effectiveness and support business objectives
- Support banner business analysis, digital team initiatives, and budgeting processes through comprehensive data analysis
- Monitor and evaluate data analytics model performance, continuously refining approaches as needed
Month-End Close Support
- Prepare complex journal entries for inventory accounting including physical count reconciliations
- Partner with operations, procurement, and supply chain teams to validate inventory movements and resolve discrepancies
- Prepare journal entries for bespoke contracts with unique revenue recognition arrangements
- Support month-end closing activities including general ledger maintenance and balance sheet reconciliations

EXPECTATIONS TIMELINE
By Month 1
- Bridged budget to GL detail level for upload into ERP system
- Demonstrated understanding of existing reporting structures and month-end close processes
- Built relationships with cross-functional teams including operations and procurement
- Documented current financial reporting workflows and identify immediate improvement opportunities
By Month 3
- Supported ERP system administrator with development and launch of budget versus actuals cost center reporting
- Developed monthly cadence to discuss budget versus actuals by department to support VP of Finance
- Lead preparation of weekly and monthly cash flow forecasts with detailed variance analysis
- Supported VP of Finance with end-to-end procure-to-pay process validation
By Month 6
- Revamped monthly financial reporting package leveraging ERP system to produce consolidated financials
- Supported development of day 9 CFO/CEO financial review process post month-end close
- Lead automation of 13-week cash flow preparation leveraging ERP system administrator
- Developed margin analysis by portfolio and product comparing to expected margins
By Month 12
- Owned monthly financial package preparation with minimal supervision
- Drove process improvements and automation initiatives across financial reporting
- Established efficient workflows for ad hoc reporting requests
- Supported integration of new entities into company's finance and control framework
THE SKILL SET
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant accounting and financial analysis experience
- CPA designation an asset
- Advanced Excel Skills
- Exposure to ERP / Data Analytics / PowerBI preferred
