THE ROLE
A Senior Financial Analyst role with the Canadian division of an international team, the position offers a broad scope of responsibilities to support a newly created division, the various regional business lines with their pro-formas and ESG, and management reporting to head office.

  • Management Reporting (75%)
  • ESG Reporting (25%)

THE TASKS
Management Reporting
  • Develop and maintain performance dashboards that provide real-time insights into sales, inventory levels, and operational efficiency
  • Conduct comprehensive financial analysis, including profit margins, cost of goods sold (COGS), and other key financial indicators
  • Prepare detailed budget vs. actual reports comparing performance against forecasts and highlighting variances
  • Analyze profitability by customer and product line to identify high-margin opportunities and underperforming segments
  • Generate inventory management reports on turnover, stock levels, and obsolescence risk to optimize operations
  • Review operational processes and provide efficiency reports with improvement recommendations
  • Provide insights into market trends, competitive landscape, and industry benchmarks for strategic decision-making
  • Compile and present stakeholder reports tailored to executive leadership, department heads, and external partners

ESG Reporting

  • Compile detailed reports on the company's environmental footprint including energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and waste management
  • Track and report on sustainability initiatives performance such as renewable energy adoption and recycling programs
  • Detail governance structures and compliance with ethical standards including board diversity and anti-corruption measures

EXPECTATIONS TIMELINE
By Month 1
  • Mastered all financial reporting systems and analytics tools required for daily operations
  • Built working relationships with key stakeholders across business lines and team members
  • Demonstrated understanding of company's sustainability initiatives and environmental impact tracking systems

By Month 3

  • Successfully completed full quarter-end reporting package to head office with minimal supervision
  • Operated as the go-to finance contact for division management team
  • Began providing financial insights and variance explanations to stakeholders with confidence
  • Established proficiency with existing ESG reporting requirements

By Month 6

  • Provided value-added commentary and insight during stakeholder meetings
  • Developed an expert business and accounting-level understanding of the division
  • Recommended potential improvements to ESG reporting process and management reporting process for the division

By Month 12

  • Developed strong relationships with internal and external major stakeholders
  • Implemented process improvements with approval from leadership team
  • Completed at least one quarterly reporting package with no errors and minimal changes upon review
  • Demonstrated readiness for increased responsibilities and potential advancement within the organization
 

THE SKILL SET

  • CPA designation or near completion
  • 3+ years of progressive finance experience
  • Experience working with big data and advanced analytics tools
  • Management Reporting or FP&A experience with interest in ESG reporting
  • No ESG experience required
