THE ROLE
A hands-on leadership role overseeing all accounting functions while driving process improvement and automation initiatives.

THE TASKS
Financial Operations
  • Lead the month-end close process with a focus on accuracy and efficiency
  • Oversee preparation of financial statements in accordance with US GAAP
  • Develop a financial package for the CFO with KPI tracking and budget variance analysis
  • Manage multi-entity accounting for operations across US, Canada, and other regions
  • Review and approve all significant journal entries and reconciliations
  • Oversee cash flow management and 13-week cash flow forecasting
  • Support audit processes and act as the main liaison with external auditors
  • Ensure accuracy of complex accounting entries related to M&A transactions
NetSuite & Process Optimization
  • Lead the optimization of NetSuite ERP system to reduce manual processes
  • Implement inventory management functionality for hardware sensors and equipment
  • Develop automated reporting solutions that integrate financial and operational metrics
  • Create standardized procedures for recurring accounting processes
  • Establish controls to improve data integrity across financial systems
Analytical & Strategic Support
  • Provide financial analysis to support executive decision-making
  • Support M&A due diligence and post-acquisition integration
  • Develop insights to drive profitability in the PropTech sector
  • Contribute to business planning and strategic initiatives
  • Partner with department leaders to improve financial performance
Compliance & Tax
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors for income tax and sales tax filings across multiple jurisdictions
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements in all operating regions
  • Develop SOPs for ongoing tax compliance activities
Team Management
  • Lead, develop, and mentor a team of 5 accounting professionals
  • Establish performance metrics and accountability frameworks
  • Create a culture of continuous improvement within the finance function

EXPECTATIONS TIMELINE

By Month 1
  • Meet with all team members to understand existing processes and workflows
  • Identify immediate opportunities for process improvement
  • Begin assessment of NetSuite optimization priorities
  • Develop understanding of current financial reporting structure
By Month 3
  • Make significant progress on automating inventory management in NetSuite 
  • Establish a plan for optimizing accounting processes and reducing manual work
  • Begin implementing improvements to tax compliance procedures
  • Build stronger relationships with cross-functional teams
By Month 6
  • Clean up sales tax compliance processes and documentation
  • Develop and implement an improved financial reporting package for the CFO
  • Create SOPs for key accounting functions and compliance activities
  • Advance NetSuite optimization initiatives with measurable improvements
By Month 12
  • Achieve 20-30% automation of previously manual accounting processes
  • Establish streamlined month-end close procedures with reduced timeline
  • Implement comprehensive financial reporting that supports strategic decisions
  • Successfully support M&A initiatives with proper accounting treatment


THE SKILL SET
  • CPA designation with minimum 5 years of experience in a Controller or senior accounting role
  • Experience with NetSuite or similar ERP systems implementation and optimization
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and multi-entity accounting across international borders
